Biography

Joshua Frisch earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology in 2021. His research focuses on the interactions between group theory and dynamical systems, utilizing tools from combinatorics, logic, and probability. His particular research topics include random walks on groups, ergodic theory, topological dynamics, and descriptive set theory. He is particularly fascinated by how group-theoretic restrictions can give rise to dynamical properties, and conversely, how the properties of a dynamical system can reflect the acting group. Prior to his position at UC San Diego, he was an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow at the École normale supérieure.
