Biography

Joshua Rabinowitz is the director of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at the Princeton Branch and a professor in the Department of Chemistry and the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics at Princeton University. He became a member of the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey in 2008 and has an M.D.-Ph.D. in biophysics from Stanford University. Rabinowitz co-founded Alexza Pharmaceuticals and served as vice president of research before joining Princeton University in 2004. He has received several awards for his scientific contributions, including the Allen Distinguished Investigator Award, the NIH Pioneer Award, the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, and the Beckman Young Investigator Award. His research addresses broad questions in metabolic pathways and aims to develop methods and technologies that combine mass spectrometry and computational analysis with biological experimentation. His lab has made significant contributions to the field of cancer metabolism, including the discovery of nutrient uptake mechanisms such as micropinocytosis and the role of oncometabolite 2-hydroxyglutarate in cancer. Currently, he is focused on investigating the interplay between diet and metabolism in cancer, particularly how ketogenic diets can synergize with traditional chemotherapeutics in combating pancreatic cancer.
