Dr. Joshua Vogelstein

Biography

Joshua Vogelstein is an Associate Professor in the Solomon H Snyder Department of Neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University. He received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering and has dedicated his research to understanding the principles underlying animal intelligence, particularly focusing on learning and memory within complex systems. His research combines statistical machine learning and big data science techniques to investigate foundational principles that govern intelligence. Although the nature of intelligence remains partially understood, Vogelstein's work seeks to identify the shared principles among intelligences across different scales and entities. He engages in collaborative research with experimental neuroscientists globally, designing experiments to collect data that answer critical questions about intelligence. Currently, he is exploring several research threads, including learning in non-Euclidean contexts, geodesic learning, and lifelong learning, which aims to enhance performance across varied tasks over time.
