Biography

Joshua Vorstenbosch, MD PhD FRCSC is a board-certified plastic surgeon in clinical practice at the Royal Victoria Hospital. He graduated as the valedictorian of his medical school class at McGill University in 2014 while concurrently earning a PhD in Experimental Surgery in 2013, focusing on the cellular and molecular causes of fibrosis and inflammation in wound healing. Vorstenbosch completed his plastic surgery residency at the University of Manitoba, a center known for the highest volume of microsurgery cases in Canada. He advanced his expertise in microsurgery, breast reconstruction, and lymphedema surgery through fellowship training in microvascular oncologic reconstruction at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center before returning to McGill University as an attending plastic surgeon. In addition to his clinical duties, he operates a laboratory at Montreal General Hospital investigating tissue interactions at the implant interface, concentrating on how various factors contribute to normal and pathological capsular development around breast implants, with specific interests in the pathogenesis of capsular contracture and breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma. His clinical research focuses on breast reconstruction outcomes, lymphedema surgical outcomes, and quality improvement in plastic surgery.
