Biography

Joshua Vorstenbosch, MD PhD FRCSC, is a board-certified plastic surgeon actively practicing at the Royal Victoria Hospital. He graduated as valedictorian of his medical school class at McGill University in 2014 and simultaneously earned a PhD in Experimental Surgery in 2013, focusing on the cellular and molecular causes of fibrosis and inflammation in wound healing. Following this, he completed his residency in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Manitoba, which is recognized as one of the highest volume centers for microsurgery in Canada. Dr. Vorstenbosch further refined his skills through a fellowship in microvascular oncologic reconstruction at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center before returning to McGill University as an attending plastic surgeon. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, he leads a research laboratory at Montreal General Hospital where he investigates tissue interactions at the implant interface. His research predominantly centers on understanding the normal and pathological capsular development of breast implants, particularly the pathogenesis of capsular contracture and breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma. His interests extend to evaluating breast reconstruction outcomes, lymphedema surgical outcomes, and enhancing quality improvement in plastic surgery practices.
