Dr. Joshua Whitehead

Biography

Joshua Whitehead is an Assistant Professor in International Indigenous Studies at the University of Calgary. His academic work focuses on Indigenous Literatures and Indigenous Queer Two-Spirit Studies. Whitehead holds a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's degree in Cultural Studies from the University of Winnipeg, and completed his PhD in English at the University of Calgary. His research explores narratives that intersect with Indigenous identities and queer theory, pushing boundaries within these categories through literature. His notable publications include 'Jonny Appleseed' and 'Making Love Land', both of which exemplify his interest in speculative fiction that engages with Two-Spirit narratives. Whitehead's work contributes significantly to the visibility and understanding of Indigenous queer voices in contemporary literature, making critical strides in literary discourse.
