Biography

Joshua Yang is the Arthur B. Freeman Chair Professor in the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Southern California. He was previously a professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 2015 to 2020, and spent 8 years at HP Labs leading a team on emerging materials and devices for memory computing. His current research focuses on Post-CMOS hardware, in-memory computing, near-sensor computing, and neuromorphic computing, with applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence. Dr. Yang holds 121 granted and 60 pending patents, with significant contributions to MRAM technology and neuromorphic computing through his startup TetraMem Inc. He serves on several advisory boards for international journals and conferences and is a founding chair of the IEEE Neuromorphic Computing Technical Committee. His achievements have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Powell Faculty Research Award and the UMass Chancellor Medal. He is a Clarivate™ Highly Cited Researcher and an elected IEEE Fellow and National Academy of Inventors Fellow for his contributions in his field.
