J. Joshua Yang is the Arthur B. Freeman Chair Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Southern California. He served as a professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 2015 to 2020. Prior to that, he spent eight years at HP Labs leading the emerging materials devices team focused on memory computing. His current research interests include Post-CMOS hardware, in-memory computing, near-sensor computing, neuromorphic computing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. He holds 121 granted and 60 pending patents, with significant contributions in MRAM and RRAM technologies. Dr. Yang is the co-founder and chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of TetraMem Inc., which specializes in hardware acceleration for AI/ML. He is also the director of the Center of Excellence on Neuromorphic Computing sponsored by the Air Force and co-director of the Institute for Future Computing at USC. Additionally, he has guest-edited 12 journal special issues on memory and unconventional computing and serves as an Associate Editor for Science Advances (AAAS). Dr. Yang is a founding chair of the IEEE Neuromorphic Computing Technical Committee and has received numerous accolades, including the UMass Chancellor Medal and recognition as a Clarivate™ Highly Cited Researcher. His work encompasses intelligent and efficient systems based on near-sensor and in-memory computing, neuromorphic computing using memristive devices, and hardware accelerators for AI implementations.
