Biography

Josie Ferreira is a Senior Research Fellow at University College London, holding a Wellcome Career Development Fellowship. Her research interests focus on employing in situ structural biology techniques, primarily cellular electron cryo-tomography, to study eukaryotic parasites. After completing her BSc in Biochemistry at University College London, she progressed to Imperial College London for her MRC-funded PhD, where her work concentrated on using electron cryo-tomography to understand the assembly, regulation, and evolution of bacterial flagellar motors. Josie was awarded a HFSP Postdoctoral Fellowship, which took her to CSSB Hamburg, where she developed workflows to study the structure and organization of malaria parasites' cytoskeleton utilizing in situ structural biology techniques. In January 2024, she will establish her own research group at UCL, funded by the Wellcome Trust.
