Dr. Josien Pluim

Biography

Josien Pluim is a Full Professor in Medical Image Analysis at the Eindhoven University of Technology, where she also heads the Medical Image Analysis group. Additionally, she holds a part-time professorship at the University Medical Center Utrecht and serves as the vice-dean of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at TU/e. Her research primarily focuses on image analysis methods such as registration, segmentation, detection, and the application of machine and deep learning methodologies in clinical contexts, with particular emphasis on neurology and oncology. Pluim completed her studies in Computer Science at the University of Groningen in 1996, specializing in Scientific Computing and Imaging. She conducted her master's thesis research at the Image Sciences Institute of the UMC Utrecht and went on to obtain her PhD in 2001, focusing on multimodality image registration. Following her doctoral research, she worked as an assistant professor and later as an associate professor, including a period at the Image Processing Analysis Group at Yale University. In 2014, she was appointed a Full Professor in the Biomedical Engineering Department at TU/e and became a part-time professor at the Image Sciences Institute of UMC Utrecht in 2015. Throughout her career, she has co-authored over 250 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has served on the editorial boards of several notable journals, including IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging and Medical Image Analysis. She has been active in various academic societies and conferences.
