Biography

Josip Novakovich is a renowned author and academic specializing in fiction and nonfiction writing, as well as the cultural, political, and historical narratives of Yugoslavia. He has been a prominent figure in creative writing education, serving as a Professor at Concordia University in Montreal since July 1, 2009. His academic journey includes visiting professorships, such as at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and previous faculty positions at Pennsylvania State University, the University of Cincinnati, and Bard College. Novakovich holds an MA in English/Creative Writing from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, cum laude, from Vassar College. He has received multiple fellowships and prestigious awards, including the Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship and the Black Mountain Institute Fellowship. Novakovich’s extensive publication record includes multiple novels, essay collections, and numerous short stories published in acclaimed literary journals.
