Jovica Ninkovic is a Professor in the Department of Cell Biology at the Biomedical Center of Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. His research focuses on neurogenesis and regeneration, where he applies a translational approach that encompasses both zebrafish and mouse models. Ninkovic aims to discover novel strategies for brain repair by modulating the functions of glial cells. His work utilizes a combination of in vivo cell imaging methods and OMICS analysis to deepen the understanding of the mechanisms underlying regeneration in zebrafish, with the goal of implementing these findings to facilitate repair in the mammalian brain. Before his current appointment, he led a research group at the Institute of Stem Cell Research at Helmholtz Zentrum München from 2013 to 2018 and completed postdoctoral research in the lab of Magdalena Götz at the same institution. Ninkovic holds a PhD in Developmental Biology from the Technical University of Munich, where he trained under advisors Laure Bally-Cuif and Wolfgang Wurst.
