Dr. Joy Baskin

Biography

Joy Surratt Baskin is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas School of Law, specializing in School Law. She has extensive experience in legal services for educational institutions, having served as the Education Counsel Associate Executive Director for the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). In her role at TASB, Joy oversaw Legal Services, Policy Service, and Community College Services, providing legal information and support to Texas public school officials. She was a member of the Permanent Judicial Commission for Children, Youth, and Families appointed by the Texas Supreme Court and has contributed significantly to the field as a Chair for the national Council of School Attorneys. Joy is also a founding member of the National School Attorneys Association. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her contributions to school law, including regular presentations at conferences and contributions to legal publications. Joy's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts with honors from Stetson University and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Texas School of Law, where she graduated with honors. Since spring 2024, she has been teaching as an adjunct professor at Texas Law, sharing her knowledge and expertise with future legal professionals.
