Dr. Joy Kaufman

Biography

Joy S. Kaufman, PhD, is a Professor and the Deputy Chair for Professional Development in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine. She also serves as the Executive Director of the Yale Consultation Center and is a Co-Director of YaleEVAL. Dr. Kaufman is trained as a Clinical Community Psychologist and specializes in conducting large-scale evaluations of health service delivery systems. Her work often focuses on under-resourced communities and involves partnerships with government agencies and community organizations, aimed at generating data that informs program and policy development. Her research addresses the identification of contextual factors impacting the outcomes of individuals facing emotional and behavioral difficulties, applying scientific rigor in her evaluations. Dr. Kaufman has received funding from prominent organizations including the National Institute of Justice and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Her future research will continue to focus on improving healthcare systems for children, especially those affected by traumatic events, and will further involve training community members in research methods. Dr. Kaufman has a robust portfolio of publications and is committed to disseminating findings that promote equity and justice in health service delivery.
