Joyce Nicholson has been teaching at the University of Glasgow since 2009 across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs within the School of Education. Currently, she is completing a PhD study exploring the role of schools as 'safe havens' or 'nightmares' for children and young people with drug-using mothers or caregivers. Her research interests include women's substance use, the impact of parental substance use on children and young people, community responses to support marginalized and stigmatized groups, and the intersection of abuse and violence, particularly sexual abuse, in schools as places of safety that enable wellbeing.
