Dr. Joyce Pressley

Biography

Joyce Pressley is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. Her research spans the disciplines of public health policy, epidemiology, emergency medicine, critical care, and healthcare economics. She has chaired national organizations and served on committees addressing injury and violence. Her ongoing research focuses on utilizing large, multi-sourced datasets to explore modifiable factors related to transportation safety and injury disparities and involves legislation and translational science to scale effective interventions. Pressley's early work on disparities in life expectancy led to the development of the Socioeconomic Model of Functional Decline. She has created a Comprehensive Injury Risk Assessment Reduction method, which identifies modifiable risk factors contributing to injury from home, community, and individual intrinsic factors, along with medical care. She has extensive research grant management experience, having served as Principal Investigator on NIH-funded projects.
