Dr. Joyce Tyldesley

Biography

Joyce Tyldesley is a teaching-focused Egyptologist at the University of Manchester, where she offers a variety of online courses in Egyptology, including Certificates, Diplomas, and Master's programs. She holds a D.Phil in prehistoric archaeology from the University of Oxford and has a background in archaeology of the Eastern Mediterranean. In addition to her academic roles, Joyce is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Research Associate at the Manchester Museum. Her research interests are centered on the development of distance-learning in Egyptology, Egyptian historiography, and the role of women in ancient Egypt. Joyce has published extensively, including books and articles tailored to both academic and general audiences about ancient Egypt, and she is involved in the Iron Sky project, which explores the use of meteorite iron in ancient Egypt. Her notable works include 'Tutankhamun: Pharaoh, Icon, Enigma' published in 2022 and 'Tutankhamen's Curse', which won the Felicia Holton Book Award from the Archaeological Institute of America. Joyce's dedication to outreach is reflected in her participation in various media platforms and contributions to publications discussing ancient Egyptian history and culture.
