Biography

Joyce Yan-Ran Wang leads PixAIL (Precision Imaging × Artificial Intelligence Laboratory) at the University of Michigan. Her team develops advanced machine learning methods that interface computer vision with biomedical data science. Prior to joining Michigan, she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Stanford’s Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine & Imaging. She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from Northwestern University. Dr. Wang's research interests focus on core machine learning challenges motivated by healthcare needs, including multimodal foundation models, multimodal reasoning and post-training, reinforcement learning, and generative modeling for healthcare applications. Her lab is dedicated to advancing biomedical AI technologies to improve healthcare safety, enable automated diagnosis, and drive precision medicine, particularly in the areas of oncology and cardiology.
