Biography

Joyce Westerink is an emeritus part-time Professor of Human-Technology Interaction at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), where she has held a chair in Wellbeing Psychophysiology since 2012. She has taught courses and mentored numerous students at both master’s and PhD levels. Before her academic career, she spent many years at Philips Research, where she led and contributed to various industrial research projects and collaborations from 1985. Her research interests are in psychology, physiology, user interfaces, human-computer interaction, and stress. Westerink focuses on applying psychophysiology to develop products and applications that enhance people's lives. Current investigations center on general wellbeing, which encompasses mental balance, eudaimonia, stress, happiness, and arousal measured through unobtrusive sensors. Her previous work at Philips involved psychological research within technological contexts, including visual perception, image quality, human factors, and psychophysiology related to emotions. She holds an MSc in Experimental Physics from Utrecht University and a PhD from Eindhoven University of Technology, and has published numerous articles, books, and established patents throughout her career.
