Dr. Joydeep Mitra

Biography

Joydeep Mitra is an Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan State University, where he also serves as the Director of the Energy Reliability & Security (ERiSe) Laboratory and is a senior faculty associate at the Institute of Public Utilities. He obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University and his B.Tech. with honors in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. With over twenty years of academic experience and five years in industry consulting, he has expertise in power system hardware installation, modeling, simulation, and energy markets. His research has focused on power system modeling, analysis, stability, control, planning, and simulation, making notable contributions to power system reliability analysis and reliability-based planning. He has authored over 200 publications and patents in the power systems field. Notably, he co-authored the book 'Electric Power Grid Reliability Evaluation: Models Methods' and received several awards for his work, including the 2020 Merit Award from the International Society of Probabilistic Methods Applied to Power Systems and the 2019 IEEE-PES Roy Billinton Power System Reliability Award. As a Fellow of the IEEE, he has served as an editor for various IEEE journals and held leadership roles in IEEE committees. Through his active participation in IEEE activities, he contributes to the development of IEEE standards.
