Dr. Juan Auz Vaca

Biography

Juan Auz is an Ecuadorian lawyer and Postdoctoral Researcher at Tilburg Law School, focusing on Public Law and Governance. He completed his PhD at the Hertie School's Centre for Fundamental Rights in Berlin and is currently engaged in transnational environmental litigation as part of the ERC-funded 'Translitigate' project. Auz is also recognized as an Alexander von Humboldt fellow at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). His professional experience includes significant roles such as co-founder and Executive Director of Fundación Pachamama, advocating for the rights of indigenous peoples in the Amazon. He holds an LL.B. from Universidad de las Americas Quito and an LL.M. in Global Environmental Law from the University of Edinburgh. Juan Auz is a member of various organizations related to environmental law and human rights, including CIVICUS and the International Union for Conservation of Nature's World Commission on Environmental Law. His research interests encompass a range of fields including International Environmental Law, Climate Law, and Human Rights Law, emphasizing legal mobilization in response to climate crises. He is actively involved in climate litigation initiatives and collaborates with NGOs across Latin America to address the intersection of environmental degradation and human rights.
