Dr. Juan Carlos Alejaldre

Biography

Juan Carlos "JC" Alejaldre, MPH, MBA is currently an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health, where he teaches courses on leadership and professional communications. He has been working at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital since 2016, currently serving as the Director of Operations in the Community Health division. In this role, he oversees management and strategy for programs that impact chronic disease prevention and management, behavioral and mental health, sexual and reproductive health, youth development, and maternal and child health across the five boroughs of NYC and Westchester County. Additionally, he takes on responsibilities as administrator-on-call, providing operational coverage for inpatient operations during evenings, weekends, and holidays across five hospitals, with a total of 1,425 inpatient beds. JC is also actively researching interventions focusing on marginalized immigrant populations and their access to healthcare, which has been hindered by multiple adverse social determinants of health. A DACA recipient brought to the U.S. as a young child, he hopes that his work in public health will contribute to the elimination of health disparities faced by disadvantaged communities and future individuals in urban centers beyond mere geographical distinctions. A PhD student in Health Sciences, he holds Master's degrees in Public Health and Business Administration, and has lived in the New York City area since he was six years old, where he is a die-hard Yankee fan.

Experience
