Biography

Juan Chamorro is an Assistant Professor in the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, with a courtesy appointment in the Department of Physics. He obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Johns Hopkins University in 2021, where he focused on quantum materials. Currently, he is a NSF MPS-Ascend Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Santa Barbara, until 2024. His research at Carnegie Mellon centers on the synthesis of quantum materials, crystal growth, and the characterization of their structural and physical properties through in-house measurements, X-ray, and neutron scattering experiments conducted at both national and international facilities. Chamorro's work is highly interdisciplinary, drawing on his expertise in materials science, inorganic solid-state chemistry, and condensed matter physics.
