Biography

Juan Cole is the Richard P. Mitchell Collegiate Professor of History at the University of Michigan. He began his scholarly career researching early modern Shiite Islam and has since turned his focus towards Sunni modernism, particularly in Egypt. In recent years, he has returned to fields in which he trained graduate students, concentrating on early Islam in its late antique context.
