Biography

Juan Durán studied computer science and philosophy at the National University of Córdoba in Argentina. He has worked for the National Space Activities Commission in Argentina on projects related to software engineering, programming, neural networks, parallel processing, and remote sensing. He obtained his PhD in Cluster Excellence SimTech at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. Before joining TU Delft, he was a research associate at the High Performance Computing Centre in Stuttgart. Current work includes the philosophy of computer science, particularly in computer models, specifications, algorithms, and ethics concerning technology. He is also researching philosophy in medicine, notably using simulations to understand infectious diseases and the visualization of computer simulations. Durán has contributed to various publications, including works on scientific explanation via computer simulations, the role of simulations in empirical sciences, and more.
