Dr. Juan Escobedo Diaz

Biography

Juan Pablo Escobedo-Diaz is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Engineering and Information Technology at UNSW Canberra. He obtained his doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University. Before he joined the academic staff, he held research positions at the Institute for Shock Physics at Washington State University and Los Alamos National Laboratory. His main research interests are centered on the dynamic behavior of materials under extreme conditions, focusing specifically on high pressure and high strain rate environments. He investigates the effects of microstructural features on the dynamic fracture behavior of metals and metallic alloys. Escobedo-Diaz has published primarily in the fields of Shock Physics and Materials Science, and he is a member of various professional organizations, including the Metals, Minerals and Materials Society, the American Physical Society, the Society for Experimental Mechanics, and the Materials Research Society. He serves as a regular reviewer for numerous journals, including the Journal of Applied Physics and Metallurgical and Materials Transactions. He supervises PhD students and undergraduate honors students, guiding their research projects in mechanical behavior of materials.
