Biography

Juan Sanchez-Esteban is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Brown University and has been a member of the neonatology faculty since 2000. He completed his medical education at the University of Granada in Spain and followed by residency training at Hospital Valle de Hebron in Barcelona. He further advanced his expertise by completing a residency in Pediatrics at Metropolitan Hospital in New York and a fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Women & Infants Hospital, Brown University. His research primarily focuses on basic translational research in fetal lung development, as well as clinical research associated with point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). He co-directs a program centered around significant quality improvement projects targeting the use of non-invasive ventilation techniques to reduce the incidence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). His current studies delve into the development of a POCUS program aimed at utilizing ultrasound for various pediatric applications, such as the assessment of central line position and readiness for extubation. Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Sanchez-Esteban actively participates in several professional societies and has received numerous awards for his contributions to the field of pediatrics.
