Juan C. Vasquez received his B.S. degree in electronics engineering from the Autonomous University of Manizales, Colombia, and his Ph.D. degree in automatic control, robotics, and computer vision from the Technical University of Catalonia, Spain. He has worked as a teaching assistant at the Autonomous University of Manizales and as a Post-Doctoral Assistant at the Technical University of Catalonia. From 2011 to 2014, he served as an Assistant Professor and was later promoted to Associate Professor in the Department of Energy Technology at Aalborg University, Denmark. As of now, he is a Professor and Co-Director of the Center for Research on Microgrids (CROM). He is also a Visiting Scholar at the Center of Power Electronics Systems (CPES) at Virginia Tech and has been a visiting professor at Ritsumeikan University in Japan. His research interests focus on advanced hierarchical cooperative control, energy management optimization applied to distributed generation AC/DC Microgrids, maritime microgrids, and the integration of advanced metering infrastructures with the Internet of Things and Smart Grid concepts. His contributions to the field have earned him recognition as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics in 2017 and he received the Young Investigator Award from MDPI in 2019.
