Dr. Judd Rice

Biography

Judd Christopher Rice is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cancer Biology and the Director of the Biochemistry & Molecular Medicine Master's Degree Program at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. His research focuses on the structural unit of chromatin, the nucleosome, and its components, such as histones and the processes that regulate them. The Rice laboratory aims to elucidate the factors that establish and maintain the 'histone code,' which is crucial for the orchestration of gene transcription, DNA replication, and repair. The long-term goal of his research is to translate these fundamental biological insights into novel epigenetic therapies for treating human diseases, particularly developmental and age-related diseases, and cancer. He employs a combination of conventional biochemical approaches and state-of-the-art technologies in his investigations, focusing on how chromatin-modifying proteins can alter fundamental nuclear processes, ultimately impacting human health and disease.
