Biography

Judi Bartfeld is a faculty affiliate at the Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where her research investigates problems related to hunger and food insecurity in the United States. She examines the patterns, causes, and consequences of food insecurity, as well as solutions to these issues, with a particular interest in the role of food assistance programs and policies. In her appointment with the UW–Madison Division of Extension, Bartfeld works to make food security data and research available, understandable, and actionable for non-academics. She is currently involved in projects aimed at understanding the patterns of food insecurity in Wisconsin, particularly during the pandemic. Additionally, her secondary research focus includes child support and child placement, analyzing the economic well-being of divorced parents.
