Dr. Judi Bartfeld

Biography

Judi Bartfeld is a Professor in the Department of Consumer Science at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her research primarily focuses on issues related to hunger and food insecurity in the United States, examining the patterns, causes, consequences, and potential solutions to these challenges. With a particular interest in food assistance programs, Bartfeld works to translate food security data and research into information that is accessible and actionable for non-academic audiences. Throughout her career, she has generated significant investments to support local, state, and national research initiatives in food insecurity and food assistance programs. Additionally, she has collaborated on grants that support research on child support, child placement, and the economic well-being of divorced parents. Bartfeld has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and policy reports related to these topics and has received accolades for her contributions, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary’s Honor Award in 2014 for her leadership in the RIDGE program, which supported a nationwide network of junior scholars in food security.
