Biography

Judi L Kidger is a Professor at the University of Bristol with a focus on Public Mental Health. She completed her PhD on teenage pregnancy and sex education at the University of Bristol. Her research primarily aims to improve young people's mental health, particularly within school and community settings. Judi has led a school-based cluster randomized controlled trial, known as the WISE study, which evaluates interventions to enhance secondary school teachers' mental health skills in supporting students. She is also a co-lead of the National Institute for Health Research's School Public Health Research Public Mental Health Programme and is involved in various studies aimed at improving self-harm and suicide prevention support in schools and youth organizations. In recognition of her contributions, she was awarded the NIHR Population Health Career Scientist Award and is actively working in partnership with local authorities to create a systems approach for improving mental health pathways for young people as they transition into adulthood. Over the past five years, she has engaged in numerous research projects focusing on public health perspectives, demonstrating a commitment to creating resilient pathways for the youth.
