Biography

Judith L. Campbell is a Professor of Chemistry and Biology at the California Institute of Technology, where she has served since 1989. She earned her B.A. from Wellesley College in 1965 and her Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1974. Campbell's research focuses on the mechanisms of DNA replication and the regulation of cellular processes related to genomic stability. Her lab studies the components of the DNA replication apparatus and their role in maintaining genomic integrity using yeast genetics, biochemistry, and human cell models. Her current research interests include understanding the pathogenesis of cancer, particularly how DNA replication mechanisms can be exploited for therapeutic targets. Campbell has made significant contributions to elucidating the interaction between DNA helicases and the replication machinery, particularly the role of Dna2 in DNA repair and chromosomal stability. She collaborates with various labs to further the understanding of these processes on both yeast and human cells, contributing to insights that could lead to new cancer treatments.
