Biography

Judith Kirschner joined the Institute of Geography at the University of Bern as an Early Postdoc in April 2024, after completing her PhD on governance systems in wildfire regimes at the European University of Nicosia, Cyprus. Her PhD project was associated with the PyroLife Innovative Training Network, a research training programme funded by the European Union, which contributes to preparing the world to live with fire. Judith's research interests include the socio-ecological processes of fire in landscapes, a focus intensified during her Master's in Earth Sciences at the University of Amsterdam where her thesis examined the role of palaeofire and its fascinating impact on Earth's history. She is dedicated to understanding how fire has shaped ecological dynamics across various environments.
