Biography

Judy Ledlee is a passionate cleantech innovation commercialization expert and the Executive Director of Design Climate at Duke University. Her journey in cleantech began during her doctoral studies at Duke, where she researched emerging water treatment technologies. After graduation, Judy co-founded a startup focusing on hydraulic fracturing wastewater recycling and pursued a successful career in the water industry, working with notable companies such as Evoqua (now Dupont Xylem), Black & Veatch, and ZwitterCo. Throughout her career, she has engaged in entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial activities, with a strong commitment to creating opportunities for new generations of students to develop innovations that address climate challenges. Judy has received several awards for her contributions to the field, including the Young Professional of the Year by Water Wastes Digest in 2021 and the Austin F. McCormick Jr. Award from the American Water Works Association in 2017. Her academic interests include commercializing innovations that tackle climate issues, with a focus on cleantech solutions and advanced water/wastewater treatment technologies.
