Biography

Judith Block McLaughlin focuses on leadership governance in higher education. She has served as Chair for the Massachusetts Public Education Nominating Council and co-chair of the Harvard Kennedy School Program in Crisis Leadership in Higher Education. McLaughlin has consulted extensively on leadership transitions, presidential assessments, and board governance. Prior to joining Harvard, she held positions as Dean of Student Affairs at various colleges and was the Executive Director of the National Academy for Education. She earned her A.B. summa cum laude in Sociology from the University of North Carolina, and her M.A.T. in secondary social studies and Ed.D. in administration, planning, and social policy from Harvard University. McLaughlin has authored several significant works on leadership in higher education, and has received numerous honors including honorary degrees from Stonehill College and Bridgewater State College, and the Allen P. Splete Award for Outstanding Service to Higher Education.
