Biography

Judith Möller is a Professor of Empirical Communication Research at the University of Hamburg, where she also collaborates with the Leibniz Institute for Media Research (HBI). She has been appointed as the Director of HBI as of March 2025. Möller previously served as an Associate Professor in Political Communication at the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Amsterdam and also at the Department of Sociology and Political Science at the University of Trondheim. Her research focuses on how algorithmic filter systems affect niche audiences, particularly through her NWO VENI Talent Track project entitled ‘Vocal, Visible Vaulting? (Dis)connected Niche Audiences Age Artificial Intelligence’. She has published extensively in international journals and is a member of the editorial board for journals in the field of Communication and Political Communication, as well as an ad hoc reviewer for leading journals. Möller is involved in various research initiatives that address current issues in Information, Communication, and Data Society.
