Biography

Judith C. Scott is an Assistant Professor at Boston University School of Social Work. Her research focuses on trauma, physical child maltreatment, racism (both interpersonal and structural), and the protective processes involved in ethnic-racial socialization and coping mechanisms. She examines how contextual factors influence parenting and mental health among families from diverse cultures. An interdisciplinary researcher, Dr. Scott employs community-based participatory approaches integrating qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods in her work. Her current and past research has primarily concentrated on Black and Asian children and families, taking into account ethnic variation and immigrant experiences. Additionally, Dr. Scott has a secondary research interest in providing program evaluations for small to medium non-profit community organizations that serve families. She is also a consulting editor for the Journal of Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology and is involved with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, where she is part of the Office of Youth and Young Adult Services Racial Equity Movement Advisory Board, as well as the Boston University School of Public Health Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health Advisory Board. Currently, Dr. Scott is mentoring PhD students.
