Biography

Judith Sribnai has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of French Literatures at the Université de Montréal since 2017. She obtained her doctorate in literature in 2011 from Paris IV-Sorbonne and Université de Montréal. Her thesis, published under the title 'Récit et relation de soi au XVIIe siècle' in 2014, focused on self-representation in first-person novels and philosophical texts of the 17th century. She completed a post-doctorate at the University of Ottawa, exploring the relationships between margin and identity in 17th-century novels, and another at UQAM, investigating narratives of access to knowledge and the interplay between conversion and scholarly discourse. Judith has co-directed several journal issues, including 'Analyses' and 'XVIIe siècle'. Her latest book, 'Pierre Gassendi: The Journey to Wisdom (1592-1655)', was published by the Université de Montréal Press. Her research uses discourse analysis and sociocriticism to examine narratives and self-figurations, alongside the connections between fiction and knowledge in literature and philosophy. She also explores representations of labor in 2000s French films, graphic novels, and dance.
