Biography

Judith Thompson is a widely recognized playwright, director, screenwriter, and actor with a distinguished career spanning theater and film. As a professor at the University of Guelph, she teaches courses in acting and playwriting and directs Mainstage shows. Her published works encompass a variety of media, including plays such as Crackwalker, White Biting Dog, and Perfect Pie, showcasing her versatility and depth in dramatic storytelling. Thompson’s creative endeavors extend to film, having written the feature films Lost and Delirious and Perfect Pie, and contributed to television and radio, exemplified by works like Tornado and The Big White Light. In addition to her prolific artistic output, she is the founding artistic director of R.A.R.E. Theatre, which focuses on amplifying voices from marginalized communities. Judith Thompson has received numerous accolades for her work, including two Governor General Awards and the Officer of the Order of Canada, reflecting her significant impact on the Canadian arts landscape.
