Biography

Judith Varner is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of California, San Diego. She has been a faculty member in the Department of Medicine since 1997 and moved to the Department of Pathology in 2012. Dr. Varner received her undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Duke University and her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Basel in Switzerland. Her research focuses on the mechanisms regulating tumor immune suppression and inflammation, particularly in cancer. She has published significant work on integrin signaling in cancer and the role of macrophages in promoting tumor growth. Dr. Varner is involved in several clinical trials testing novel therapeutic agents for cancer patients and has received numerous awards for her research, including the AACR-Landon Foundation Innovator Award and the V Foundation Award for Translational Cancer Research. Additionally, she is an active member of the American Association for Cancer Research and is involved in the international organization studying myeloid cell biology therapeutics.
