Biography

Dr. Judy Davidson is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta. She holds a PhD in Physical Education and Recreation from the University of Alberta, obtained in 2003, as well as a Master's degree in Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation (1994), and a Bachelor of Physical Education in Outdoor Education (1992). Her research interests focus on feminist queer approaches to sport and leisure phenomena, exploring topics such as homonationalism and the international lesbigay sport movement. Dr. Davidson has examined queer feminist subjectivity through her SSHRC-funded project, 'Coming Moving Body: Physical Movement in Mid-life', where she articulates movement experiences of individuals who identify with alienated kinesthetic embodiments. Currently, she collaborates with Dr. Jay Scherer to investigate the impacts of downtown arena development in Edmonton's inner city communities. Dr. Davidson teaches various courses, including PEDS 401 - Applied Ethics in Sport and Physical Education, RLS 400 - Philosophies of Leisure, and KSRLS 351 - Cultural Studies of Sport and Leisure.
