Biography

Judy completed her PhD in Materials Engineering at Monash University, focusing on novel processing methods for nanocrystalline TiO2 films used in dye-sensitized solar cells. After moving to the UK, she worked on the development of titanate nanotubes for hydrogen storage during her post-doctoral research at the University of Bath. Judy was awarded the Ramsay Memorial Fellowship, which she held at the University of Bristol's School of Chemistry, where she remained for five years as a researcher and lecturer. Currently, she serves as an Associate Professor in the School of Materials Science & Engineering at UNSW. Her research is centered on developing new semiconducting materials, particularly solid solutions and heterostructures for renewable energy applications like photocatalysis and solar cells. She employs a combination of computational methods, such as density functional theory, and experimental approaches, aiming to understand the relationships between composition and properties to effectively utilize these materials in energy applications. Judy is also an enthusiastic educator, having developed online teaching resources and contributed as a co-author to the first Australian and New Zealand edition of 'Materials Science Engineering: Introduction.'
