Biography

Judy Kim is a Departmental Lecturer at the University of Oxford, specializing in Aberration Corrected Transmission Electron Microscopy. She graduated from Northwestern University and completed her Ph.D. at the University of California, Davis, where her research focused on the development of the Dynamic Transmission Electron Microscope (DTEM). Judy's innovative work has garnered several accolades, including the Zuhair Munir Dissertation Award and the R&D 100 Award for Microscopy Innovation in 2010. Her research interests include technique development utilizing monochromation, aberration correction, and characterization of energy 2D materials. She holds a special interest in in situ Transmission Electron Microscopy, aiming to enhance temporal resolution through novel optical setups and applications in radiation-sensitive materials. With years of experience managing the double aberration corrected, monochromated JEOL 2200MCO instrument, she has significantly contributed to the design of the aberration corrected ePSIC instruments at the Diamond Light Source. Currently, as the Deputy Director of Science at the Rosalind Franklin Institute, Judy co-leads a team focused on advancing characterization techniques for life sciences, particularly employing time-resolved electron imaging techniques and cryo electron ptychography.
