Judy Wong is a Professor at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of British Columbia. She obtained her PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Toronto and completed her postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Wong leads the Faculty's Molecular Systems Pharmacology Group, focusing on the mechanisms responsible for the maintenance of genome structure and integrity. Her research particularly explores the role of telomeres and telomerase in preventing chromosome erosion, as well as the cellular pathways regulating telomere maintenance in health and disease. Dr. Wong's lab investigates alternate nucleic acid structures, especially G-quadruplexes, and their roles in genome regulation and integrity. Her long-term goal is to discover genetic and pharmacological methods to regulate cellular changes that impact stable genome maintenance. Additionally, she holds multiple research grants to study the therapeutic applications of G-quadruplexes and the mechanisms of telomerase in various cancers.
