Biography

Julia Bullard is an Associate Professor at the School of Information, University of British Columbia. She holds a Ph.D. from the Information School at the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a Master of Arts in Cultural Studies and Critical Theory from McMaster University and a Master of Library and Information Studies from UBC. Her research focuses on topics such as equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in knowledge organization, information ethics, and design of information systems. Bullard has published extensively in several domains including classification, metadata schemas, and controlled vocabularies. Her teaching and research areas include information ethics, computer-supported cooperative work, and social computing. Throughout her academic career, she has engaged in collaborative syllabus design, and has explored innovative methods for understanding and enhancing volunteer contributions in classification design for fanfiction repositories.
