Biography

Julia Chester's research program focuses on the development and characterization of animal models and tools to identify biological and behavioral mechanisms that influence the risk of alcohol use disorders and co-occurring conditions, with the goal of improving the quality of human life. Through teaching, community media engagement, and professional society advocacy work, Chester promotes public knowledge of neuroscience, research ethics, and the vital role animal research plays in scientific discovery and the advancement of medicine. Her research program is funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, the Department of Defense, and Purdue University. She is currently recruiting graduate students for fall 2026 admission.
