Julia Christensen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and Planning at Queen's University. She holds a PhD in Geography from McGill University and has a strong background in social and cultural health geographies. Her research primarily focuses on the intersection of northern Indigenous communities and the social determinants of health, particularly within the context of homelessness, urbanization, and colonial formations. She has garnered recognition as a Canada Research Chair in Northern Governance Public Policy from 2017 to 2022 and was named a member of the Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists in 2022. Currently, she is the Project Director of Home North, a project funded by CMHC and SSHRC, which seeks to address the northern housing crisis by fostering collaboration between university researchers and Indigenous northern community-based organizations.
