Julia Cordero is a Principal Investigator at the Institute of Cancer Sciences, University of Glasgow. After completing her undergraduate studies in Argentina, she moved to the USA for her PhD at Washington University in St. Louis, where she focused on developmental tissue patterning in Drosophila. In 2009, she joined Owen Sansom’s group at the CRUK Beatson Institute in Glasgow for postdoctoral work, funded by Marie-Curie and EMBO fellowships. Cordero's research uncovered novel mechanisms driving intestinal regeneration in cancer, using both flies and mice. She started her independent research group in late 2014, supported by the Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship from the Royal Society and the Sir Henry Dale Fellowship from the Wellcome Trust. Her laboratory combines Drosophila and mouse model systems to explore local and whole-body functions of the intestine in health and disease. Cordero enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
