Dr. Julia Grignon

Biography

Julia Grignon is a Professor at Laval University’s Faculty of Law, where she teaches international humanitarian law, international human rights law, and refugee law. She has been a guest professor at Laval University since January 1, 2024. She is also the Scientific Director of the Institute for Strategic Research at the Military School (IRSEM) in France and a contractual teacher at the University of Paris-Panthéon-Assas. Additionally, she has served as the editor-in-chief of the journal Champs de Mars, focusing on studies related to war and peace. Grignon has directed various projects aimed at promoting international humanitarian law, including leading an initiative that ran from 2019 to 2024. She has co-directed a clinical program in international criminal and humanitarian law and has participated in numerous research projects regarding international law, particularly relating to human rights protection in armed conflicts. Julia has earned her Ph.D. from the University of Geneva and has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. Her ongoing research interests focus primarily on international humanitarian law, its applicability during conflicts, and the interplay between humanitarian law and human rights. Grignon has received several prestigious awards for her thesis on the temporal applicability of international humanitarian law, which demonstrates her commitment and impact in the field of international law.
